Peggy's Class List for 2012

Session 3 No Rules, No Rulers
No Rules, No Rulers
2 or 3 day work shop
Suitable for All levels of sewing skills
This class is structured over 4 sessions, with session 1 aimed at the beginner, however more experienced sewers will learn to develop their own designs, relax and enjoy exploring contempory practices. Stepping away from sharp lines and measurements, the students are instructed to cut their strips using freehand cutting (no rulers).  Sessions 2, 3 and 4 build on the skills learnt in the previous session, layering, manipulating, inserting and stitching. Students are able to opt out after each session; confident they can build and create their own very unique artistic quilt.

Fabric dyeing
1 day workshop
This class is an introduction to fabric dyeing.  Fabric dyeing is not complicated and is a lot of fun.  All it takes is an understanding of the basic techniques and equipment, and a desire to add more colour to designs.  Students have the opportunity to create their own one of a kind, unique fabrics, dyeing several metres of fabric during the class to use in their own projects.

Free Motion Quilting
1 day workshop
Suitable for All levels of sewing skills
In the gentlest and easiest way, you go from messy scribbles to simple, stylish quilting patterns that need no drawing.  This in turn moves your quilts into the latest fashion for glorious flowing free-motion patterns and let us you make your quilt tops into the best kind of all – finished ones.  We will be working on several practice pieces in class but with ideas for you to work with on quilts at home.

Doily Quilt
1 day workshop
Students must have some experience with Free Motion Quilting to complete this workshop
A wonderful way to extend your free motion skills, making a delightful, attractive small quilt or runner.  It’s also an opportunity to bring back to life those old doilys you’ve inherited or collected over the years that may have stains or small tears.

Foundation Piecing
1 or 2 day workshop (1 day allows you to learn the technique or 2 days to complete blocks required for quilt top).
All levels of sewing skills
This project serves as an introduction to foundation piecing with this simple stitch on the line design.  The student will use lots of scraps, jelly rolls or strips of fabric, great for raiding stashes!  The foundation method enables students to sew an accurate patchwork design easily and is very effective when wanting ‘points’ to line up.

Circle Play
1 day workshop
All levels of sewing skills
Make an exciting quilt using squares and circles to produce stunning designs that look complex, but are so easy!  Techniques include simple piecing, fusible applique and curved seams.  This is my original design, you will complete several blocks in class and go home confident that you can complete your own quilt.

Harem Cushion
1 day class
Previous sewing experience required to complete in 1 day.  With its wedged sections, trims & zippered closure, this design is sure to please.  This is a large floor cushion, measuring approx. 1mt.

Absolute Beginners Patchwork class
2 day class
I’ve designed this class to cover all the basics of patchwork – safe use and handling of rotary cutter, rulers, ¼” seam, pressing, simple quilting and attaching a binding.  This class is for any one who would like to try patchwork with out being daunted by having to make a large quilt.

Beginners Sampler Quilt
2 day workshop
Or 3 hourly sessions over 7 weeks
This quilt covers all the basics of patchwork.  Students learn a new technique each session with ample opportunity to reinforce good safety habits working with a rotary cutter and ruler.  It includes an introduction to drawing up a block, accurate cutting and piecing, techniques for pressing seams, applique and following a pattern.  On completion of all the blocks students will then piece this small quilt, learn to quilt “in the ditch” using a walking foot and apply a quilt binding.
